Mercedes AMG wants to have 30 models by the time it celebrates its 50th anniversary, and a big part in that plan is going to be played by the new four-cylinder all-wheel-drive models.
The fist to be unveiled was the A 45 AMG, soon to be followed by the CLA 45 AMG, which will debut at the New York Auto Show. The third piece of the puzzle is likely to be this vehicle, the GLA 45 AMG.
The GLA-Class itself is the smallest crossover to be offered by Mercedes. It's based on the same platform and somewhat shares its looks with the A-Class. As a consequence, it's a perfect match for the new M133 engine.
Producing 360 PS and 450 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, the first four-cylinder AMG engine will be offered in the GLA 45 AMG in combination with its bespoke AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive system.
This full-bodied prototype also previews the sports suspension, exhaust, large diameter alloy wheels and enlarged air intakes the car will come with.
The production version of the GLA will debut at at the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt, though concept versions might debut earlier.
