In a couple of years, Maserati’s product offering will grow to include the new Kubang SUV, a new small sedan and the replacement for the Quattroporte. As you can see from these latest spyshots of the Italian four-door, it’s become quite the big boat of a car, but the fact that they took it to the Nurburgring proves the sporty character everybody likes is still there.
The flagship model of the Maserati range will have a huge body to rival any german, with a huge bonnet and long overhangs at the front, you wouldn’t think it handles, but it’s still fit enough for the track.
The Italian carmaker intends to have the Quattroporte ready for the global market in 2013 as a 2014 model year. Despite being obviously bigger, it will be no heavier than the current generation, thanks to the extensive use of aluminum in the frame.
Power is expected to come from a Ferrari 4.7-liter V8, tuned to produce 475 hp and mated directly to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. All will drive will for the first time become an option, though the system will be a bit like the Ferrari FF’s double-gearbox arrangement, with a different power drivetrain for the front two wheels coming out from the engine’s front end.
