Spyshots: 2014 F22 BMW 2-Series Coupe

But why is this small coupe supposed to be so hot? Well, the 3-Series Coupe is being replaced by the 4-Series model which is longer, wider and probably more expensive. While an increased wheelbase means more room inside and more comfortable ride, it leaves the market wide open for the 1-Series to come in a swoop up all the glory if what people what is a bit of fun.

As a result, the 2-Series should be a bit bigger than before and promises a lot in terms of dynamism. The car you see in these photos is clearly a 235i model, though it could be named the 240i, just like names are changed on the 6-Series. Either way, there will be an M Performance version of the car as well, and it will have the 320 PS 3-liter N55 TwinPower turbo engine under its hood.

Rumor has it the M version will have a highly tuned 2-liter turbo, just like the CLA 45 AMG and the Audi S3. But we believe that’s only going to be for the compact sedan that’s not even begun testing.

Our favorite engine would have to be the 2-liter twin-turbo diesel in the 225d or whatever it’s going to be called. It’s the most powerful diesel of this size and will offer good economy as well.

But whatever the M Performance or M2 might be like, we’re still pretty sure it’s going to be one of the coolest new BMWs to buy. Just look at that new body: the headlights are much better than on the 1-Series, and the body is muscular. Our only complaint would have to be the boot, which looks like it came off a sedan.
