All of the German premium carmakers are working on some sort one new crossover and SUV to add to their lineup. But none are as important right now as the next generation of the model that put this market on the map.
The new BMW X5 is going to be a big evolution in terms of everything from design to the engines, safety systems or the materials used. Just like the Range Rover, it will use lighter plastics to save weight on some body panels, while the aluminum body will help with the weight reduction as well, which could be up to 150 kilos or 330 of her majesty’s pounds.
Thanks to this, the X5 will for the first time be able to use four-cylinder engines, such as the 2-liter TwinPower N20 petrol or its diesel equivalent which is rumored to be used in a hybrid.
To be frank, we’re calling it a 2014 model year, but we really don’t know when this all important model will be ready, be that late in 2013 or early the next year.
Cosmetically, we thing it's quite interesting. The headlights are like a cross between the wavy patterns of the soon to be outgoing patterin and the grill-connected elemet of the F30 3-Series. Also noteworthy is the fact that the angle of bonnet is more horisontal, whike the lower bumper lifts like a Nissan Juke's.
