This anonymous looking 3-door hatchback is not the basic Audi A3, though you’d be forgiven for thinking there’s no difference between last year’s car and the one shown in geneva.
But the fact that it’s got four exhaust tips and a set of larger diameter wheels means this is actually the next S3, featuring bigger intakes, beefy arches and of course more power.
Rumor has it the S3 will be powered by a brand new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with around 260 to 280 horsepower. As with the rest of the S models, Audi will place a clear emphasis on emissions and economy, only trying to match the performance of the old car not radically increase it.
The good news is that the quattro hatch will also be lighter than before, thanks to the modular MQB platform.
The car is now undergoing track testing at the Nurburgring track, indication it will be revealed in the next six month. The previous production schedules point toward an early 2013 market launch, and the car is also expected in the US.
