You have to be kind of bonkers to want one of these, but then most petrolheads/gearheads are. It’s the next generation of Audi RS6 Avant, based on the car that was revealed late in 2010. And it’s a car for drivers who want to scare a whole family, dogs included, at a time.
The RS6 Avant (wagon) was recently spotted testing on the famous Nurburgring track in Germany, indication the final touches on the chassis are being made. Given that the RS6 has always been its own wagon monster, it’s highly likely there will never be a sedan version on the market. Also, the RS 4 Avant was recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and there’s no sedan in sight. So it’s a wagon or nothing else if you’re interested in these fast Audis.
Due to emissions laws, Audi has downsized the RS6 from a V10 to a V8 engine with twin turbos. The 4.0-liter unit is expected to put out about 550 horsepower, and performance figures should be matched to those achieved by the old generation V10 which produced 580 horsepower. The health and safety people will likely make sure the car is slightly less powerful and slightly more economical than before.
The 0 to 62 mph sprint should be dealt with in the low 4 second range, while top speed will be electronically limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h.
