VW Group has already made it officially known that the new Skoda Octavia will follow in the footsteps of the Audi A3 MkIII and VW Golk MkVII debuting in a completely new form this November.
With the arrival of the Rapid, the Octavia will no longer have to be an affordable sedan, thus it will be free to take on the mid-size segment with better equipment and space.
On the technical side, the new Octavia will be underpinned by the same MQB platform as the Audi A3, Seat Leon new Golf. This means it will be lighter and more efficient, not to mention more profitable for Skoda.
The platform will be stretched to about 4,800 mm, which is 250 mm more than the current architecture. Ford Mondeo rival anyone?
Styling-wise, the Octavia uses the same angular shapes as the Rapid. The grill is a focal point, thanks to a large chrome upper section that looks a little bit like an open bird beak. It will take some getting used to in our opinion.
The engine options will include a base 1.2-liter TSI with 105 PS, a 1.4-liter TSI with 140 PS and at lots of diesel configurations displacing 1.6- and 2.0-liters.
The Octavia RS will arrive in both petrol and diesel flavors this time, presumably powered by 2.0-liter turbo engines, but the biggest change is that both should come with four-wheel drive.
