The Cayman might have started out as a way for Porsche to offer a pour man’s 911 Coupe but it ended up with a strong following, especially since they introduced a differential as an option, bringing that balanced chassis even more poise in the corners.
Now Porsche is developing a brand new second generation model, based on the 981 chassis shared with the 2013 Boxster. Judging by the state this prototype is in and speculative rumors, the 2013 Cayman is almost ready.
The engine too will likely be shared with the cheapest Porsche, though slight increases in power will be seen. The Base 2.7-liter flat six is going to produce about 270 hp, while the Cayman S will have a 3.4-liter good for 320 hp. The new generation will also be more comfortable, refined and faster, not to mention slightly more economical.
