You’d better keep an eye on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL, as this is a vehicle that will undergo a radical transformation once the new generation is launched next year.
As Mercedes has informed us, the car will make extensive use of aluminum to bring the weight down. The body of the car now uses an entirely new recipe - you can read more about this here.
The SL will share many of its components with the SLS AMG, such as the suspension and electrical systems - it could also get the supercar’s seven speed transmission.
Under that long bonnet, Mercedes will offer a bouquet of V6 and V8 units that will come with forced induction in order to increase efficiency further. Thus, the SL is set to become much more efficient and more fun to drive, as it is well known that a diet helps a car in both there areas.
