The normal version of Mercedes Benz’s favorite platform for introducing new tech - the S-Klasse - will see a new incarnation hitting the global market. We’re excited about all the new toys that are coming, but there’s still some time left until it’s revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. We’re going to waste use that time to think about what will happen when AMG buries all that technology under a mountain of power and speed.

The German engineers have already gone ahead and started the development of the performance machine and our dedicated team of photographers have caught a heavily camouflaged version of the upcoming S63 AMG, based on the new W222 platform.

The body is all covered up with not an inch visible to the naked eye, but that’s not really important, as there shouldn’t be much in the way of unique bodywork at the moment. The German engineers are most likely testing the way the chassis will cope with the demands of performance driving, with the test mule sporting components that will not make it to production. Don’t be fooled by those exhausts, Mercedes has most likely not finalized work on the whole powertrain yet.

You can, however, spot the larger break discs and and more open front air intakes, but beyond that you’ll have to use your imagination.

Speculation regarding what’s under the bonnet is rampant, but seeing as the current generation already offers the new 5.5-liter V8 with twin-turbos, all we have to think about is the output. The drive programs are likely to be tweaked, and equipment levels are expected to change. More legroom than ever should also be on the cards.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
