The first generation Mercedes Benz CLS-class is the car that created the whole four-door coupe phenomenon that has basically created a whole new market. Now, the competition is closing in, with Porsche, BMW and Audi all having their versions. So the CLS has been forced to bring something new to the game.
The answer will hit the market later this year - the CLS shooting brake or estate. A concept version of the car yo see here in the final stages of road testing was first shown in 2010. Public reaction was positive and a 5-meter long estate with an arched roofline is coming.

The range of engines will likely be very similar to that of the CLS four-door, which is probably why our spy photographers were able too spot so many test vehicles in one place. Expect the range to start with the CLS350, featuring the 3.5-liter V6 with 306 hp. Of more use if you’ll find yourself in a hurry is the twin-turbo V8 of the CLS550, which will have 402 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
