Mercedes has already revealed the face of compact luxury for a new generation, the 2012 A-Class hatchback. Despite the fact that they showed a full body kit for the car, the test vehicle for the hot AMG version of the car is still being kept under wraps.
Currently the most powerful A-Class you can have is the A 250, which has a Golf GTI rivaling 2.0-liter with 211 PS. But that’s about to change with the arrival of the A25 AMG, also rumored to be called the A45 AMG. From the same displacement engine, this is expected to put out at least 320 horsepower, thanks to the use of some yet unknown F1 technology.
This is Mercedes’ challenge for the RS3 Sportsback and the BMW M135i hatchback, and to keep up with the big dogs, the new kid on the block will use a permanents AWD system to put the power down.
No prototypes of this have yet been spotted, but Mercedes is also believed to be developing an AMG version of the new A-Class-based BLS/CLC sedan. This will likely use the same setup and engine.
But the A25 AMG will be the first to be unveiled as a five-door model at first, at the upcoming 2012 Paris Auto Show in September.
