We bring you our first spy photos of the new-generation Fiat Panda 4x4, spotted while it was undergoing cold weather testing in Europe. When in production, this will be an affordable alternative for those looking for a car that will deal with tougher road conditions but without the full body of an SUV.
What’s different from the frond-drive Panda is that this offers a different suspension setup with longer springs and pampers to cope with the bums and offer extra travel. The car sits higher off the ground and will have plastic cladding at all corners, like an Audi Allroad, to protect it from dings.
Much like the old generation, the back wheels are linked via a hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch ahead of the rear differential, which activates when it senses wheel slip.
Expect to find the new Panda 4x4 at your local Fiat dealer towards the end of the year.
