Here is a car that needs no introduction - the 7-Series, whose design language influenced all the others that followed it, from the 5er to the new 1-Series hatchback. Yet the kind of saloons deserves a bit of a makeover, since the looks are getting dated.

When the facelifted 7-Series makes its debut some time next year, it will have to be ready to take on stiff competition from the all-new Mercedes Benz S-Klasse, though BMW, it seems, has decided to leave the car relatively unchanged.

That’s probably because most of the changes will take place under the sheetmetal, especially under the bonnet. However, small changes to the exterior will include new LED accents wherever possible. Thus, the indicators will take on the form of an LED bar, and the Bavarians will offer a new LED headlight as an optional extra.

Cosmetic changes will also cover restyled bumpers, front and back, and a new spoiler.

Now onto the engine lineup, which will feature some of the new units introduced by BMW. The 740i will surely make use of the twin-turbocharged engine from, but power may be bumped to around 350 hp, while the 750i should have about 450 horsepower from a 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine that makes use of BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology with two turbochargers and high-precision direct injection.

There’s no info on the big V12 in the 760i, which could be replaced following the downsizing trend that all automakers are following.

The 2013 BMW 7-Series facelift will most likely debut at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show in April, while also staring in New York. The Chinese and American markets are becoming the mainstay for big luxury four-doors, so BMW will surely cater to their every whim.
