Audi has used the Frankfurt Auto Show to give us the sporty S version of the A6, but not the Allroad incarnation of the car, which is still in the testing phase.
We sent our spy photographers to search for the car, as we were impatient to find out more about it. The 2013 A6 Allroad was spotted during hot weather testing in Europe, but unfortunately the vehicle was covered from head to toe in phychedelic camouflage, which makes the plastic bodywork protection less visible.
What we can see is the ride height, which clearly opens a lot of possibilities for the driver, with another Allroad specific element being the tall roof rails.
The A6 Allroad is expected to carry over the engines from the Avant version of the car. This means that you'll get four diesels and two petrols. The entry level oil-burner is a 2-liter TDI that delivers 180 hp. This is followed by three power levels of the 3.0 TDI V6 unit, which delivers 204, 245 or 310 hp.
As for the petrol side of the range, this includes a naturally aspirated 2.8-liter V6, which churns out 204 hp, as well as a supercharged 3.0-liter engine that allows the driver to use 300 hp (this is a detuned version of the engine that was introduced on the Audi S4).
The vehicle should arrive in showrooms in the second half of next year, with rumors indicating that it will have a starting price of around EUR55,000-60,000 (USD75,000-82,000).
