The automotive producer is currently working on a new saloon that will come in a Passat size, but will use a totally different approach to the company’s European mid-size car.
The vehicle currently uses the New Midsize Sedan (NMS) name and, in the U.S., it is aimed at fighting competition coming from Asian rivals. As expected, the car won’t be brought to Europe, where VW recently introduced a facelift for the Passat model.
Our team of spy photographers managed to catch the vehicle while it was out playing but, as you can see, its mommy had dressed it with a ton of camo.
The NMS will initially be available with an engine range that will include both petrol and diesel powerplants. We are taking about a 2.0-liter TDI oil burner, a 2.5-liter five-cylinder and a 3.6-liter VR6 unit. Subsequently, the vehicle will become a follower of the downsizing trend, being fitted with a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine (this uses both turbocharging and supercharging). According to company officials, the NMS will make an even greater eco step, being scheduled to receive a hybrid powerplant by the summer of 2012.
Speaking of dates, Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, told Automotive News that the NMS will come to the world in spring 2011 and will be offered for a price of around $20,000.
