Spyshots: 2012 Mercedes SLK

Perhaps one of the most spied models in 2010, the third generation Mercedes-Benz SLK continues to play with our heads, presenting itself to the persistent carparazzis with pretty much the same unappealing camo for quite some time now.

Hopes are that the model will shed its clothes for a real surprising photo shoot at October's Paris Auto Show, in front of a crowd of photographers which will include our own. When it will reveal itself, the model will probably show a new face, combining the SLK usual traits with a touch of 2010 styling.

The new model is likely to feature some very visible changes to the front, with the MB designers giving it a more aggressive looking nose, caught in between the new grille and headlights. At the back, changes at the stop lights and some new lines are likely to make their way onto the new SLK.

The engines to go with the fresh new look will comprise four and six-cylinder petrol engines, starting at around 180 hp. This means that despite being a touch smaller than on the current model, the power output will pretty much remain the same.

The mean AMG brother of the SLK will make it into production a little while after the SLK has gotten its buyers accustomed with the new look. This one will be using a smaller engine as well, but boasting the same performance levels as the unit on the SLK AMG Black Series does today (that's 400 hp). Some sources point to an even higher output of 470 hp for the AMG version.
