Spyshots: 2012 Honda CR-V in Europe

Yesterday we brought you leaked data on the 2012 Honda CR-V engine range for the US market, and now we have to tie it all together with some spyshots of the upcoming crossover that was recently spotted on a strip of road in Spain, where it was undergoing hot weather testing.

We actually know a bit about the shape of this car from the image of the concept released earlier in the year, and most of the lines have remained the same. The only major exception is the front bumper of the vehicle that has dropped the underbelly protection in favor of a shape that’s more suited to city life.

The North American model will receive a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder normally aspirated engine, but this isn’t something European customers can expect to get used to. Instead, expect to see more frugal versions of the 2.0 i-VTEC and 2.2 i-DTEC.

A new version of the frugal 2.2-liter diesel has just been introduced with the Civic. In the hatchback, this produces an impressive 150 horsepower while only burning through 4.2 liter of fuel per 100 km. This means that this is likely to be the mainstay of sales figures across the continent.

European customers will also be able to choose between front- and all-wheel drive configurations when the new CR-V is introduced in the fall of next year.
