With the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show still open, it's time for a peak at what German manufacturer Porsche has on the side and has not brought to the event: the 2011 Porsche Boxter Speedster. Unlike the previous set of spyshots we brought you, this time the Speedster was caught...top down.
The new Speedster will try to capitalize on the tradition set by the older Porsche Speedster models. This (yet another) variant of a Porsche base model will boast a dome behind each headrest (the Porsche double humps) plus a lower windshield and a modified canvas hood. Judging by the camo, the humps will extend all the way down towards the rear of the car.
As for the engines, nothing official from the manufacturer. The rumor mill however places under the hood of the Speedster the one found on the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition Two: a 3.4l engine flat six, built to develop 303 horsepower. Sure, this may not be the only option, with a turbocharged four-cylinder unit also said to be under consideration.
Although many believed the Speedster will be introduced at the aforementioned auto show, this didn't happen. The German manufacturer may however unveil the car before the year's end, to mark the 55th anniversary of the Speedster line.
Additional information is expected to become available in the following months, as the Speedster is now hoped to show its face at one of the upcoming auto shows, so keep an eye out for updates.
