Spyshots: 2011 Opel Astra Sports Tourer, Inside View Included

Ever since the new interpretation of Opel's Astra hit the market last year, the eye of the customer has been on the lookout for the Sports Tourer version of the car (aka wagon, estate or whatever you want to call it). Since the new generation Astra marked the departure from the somewhat classic design cues of the good-old Astra, it was to be expected the Sports Tourer will boast a new approach as well.

And it does. As you can see in these pictures, taken while the Sports Tourer was resting comfortably in a parking lot, it's "bye-bye" square margins, "welcome" round, exciting curves. As with the Insignia wagon, the new approach in designing the rear of the car is more eye-friendly, with corners of the car drawn to match the tail lamps, similar to the ones on the hatch version.

Look at this picture in particular, as it shows, in full glory, the shape of the rear window, the C-pillar and pretty much the entire shape of the Sports Tourer's back end.

As far as engines go, no surprises on the horizon. This version of the new Astra will use the same engines as the hatch version: a 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated engine, a 1.6-liter Turbo (180 hp) – both gasoline - and 1.3-, 1.7- and 2.0-liter turbocharged diesels.
