After this February we brought you a first set of photos showing the 2011 Hyundai Veloster while testing in snowy conditions, now that spring is here is time for a closer look at what Hyundai intends to be a "four-passenger Honda CRX."

The official launch date for the Veloster is not yet known; nor are the specific details regarding the powertrains to be used in it, or the final appearance of the car. Apart from John Krafcik's (Hyundai CEO in the US) statement that the production version Veloster will look some 80 percent like the concept presented back in 2007, there's little to go on.

Still, that never stopped us. The Veloster (if this is to be its name) will be the size of the Accent, likely powered by a 1.6 liter four
cylinder with Direct Injection, developing 140 hp and providing a fuel consumption rating of over 40 mpg (5.8 l/100km).

The use of the above powertrain was hinted by the same Krafcik. Yet, speculators have taken the story even further, pointing to the possible use of a more powerful, 2.0-liter version of Hyundai's new Theta II GDI (Gas Direct Injection) engine.

The Veloster will be a front wheel drive and will aim more likely to attract with it's unconventional design line rather than sports car-like performance. The model will likely introduce an innovative body style never seen before.

“It might be doors or a unique roof or something with the hatch. But it won't be like anything out there before in the small car segment” said Krafcik.
