The Spyker D8 Paris-to-Peking is easily the most striking-looking SUV of any kind, ever made. It looks like nothing else on the road, being a cross between a supercar, a boat, a plane, a regular SUV, as well as luxury lounge. It was first presented back in 2006, at the Geneva Motor Show and has been in development ever since.
Now, however, there may be more hope for the big D8 to see the light of day as a limited production car, because Chinese carmaker Youngman will be investing some €10- ($12.5-) million in the company, and thus acquiring a 29.9% stake in the company.
Furthermore, the two companies will form a joint venture called Spyker P2P B.V., into which Youngman will invest an additional €25- ($31.5-) million - this will give the Chinese company a 75% stake. This is, however, not the end of the story, as the they will be forming yet another joint venture called Spyker Phoenix B.V. - 80% owned by Youngman and 20% owned by Spyker.
The production version of the D8 may be underpinned by the Phoenix platform developed for Saab, a platform which is set to underpin “a full range of premium cars”. We are really looking forward to more news from Holland (China and Sweden), because we’ve been eagerly anticipating the introduction of a production version of the D8. Also, in case you were wondering, it will cost in excess of €200,000 ($250,000).
