Despite strong sales in Europe, Nissan is better known for crossovers and SUVs than regular family sedans and hatchbacks. This is because the Japanese brand can't muster the sort of technology and engineering needed to take on the market leaders.
That's about to change though, with a successor to the Tiida coming our way later this year, talking on the VW Golf, the class leader in terms of sales. As Nissan's engineers continue to develop their brand new car in sunny Spain, our spy photographers managed to capture almost 3 minutes of telling footage. We believe a brand new design is going to be revealed, similar to the one used by the 2014 Qashqai, with a large upper grille connecting two boomerang-shaped headlights.

Nissan already has a C-segment hatchback they launched in 2012, but are re-engineering the car to better suit European needs. New engines like the 1.2 DIG-T turbo or the 1.5 DIG-T with 160 hp that's just been introduced in the Qashqai will be joined by familiar Renault-Nissan 1.5 and 1.6-liter dCi diesels.

While the automaker continues to focus on CVT technology, more recent versions of their Xtronic technology is much better, more silent and efficient. Other things that will set the new Tiida apart include a surround view system for parking, blind spot detection and other active safety systems.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
