Sprint Cars Redesigned for 2013

After earlier this week Chevrolet previewed the big change in design which is expected to surface on the 2013 Sprint Cup cars, the sanctioning body is shedding a bit more light on how exactly the cars to go around the ovals will look like from that season onwards.

According to NASCAR, the first changes in design, which will be seen as the February season opener in Daytona, will mark the departure from the current bulky, almost identical looks of the vehicles.

The main goal is, just as Chevrolet said earlier this week, to bring a bit more brand identity to the sports than in the past. From that respect, the future Sprint cars will be more similar to the ones in the Nationwide series, where the newcomer fan can distinguish between a Ford and a Chevy, for instance.

"We're already sketching and designing and pushing the envelope as far as we can, and testing, in scale, obviously, in manageable, digital ways that are cost effective -- and keeping NASCAR in the loop. I think the most important thing we can do now is co-develop the car together to make sure we get what we want, and they get what they want,"
said Ralph Gilles, Dodge brand CEO.

Of course, making the future racers look a bit more like the street versions means nothing from the design stand point for now. The Sprint cars of 2013 will look like the production models of that year, so nothing that is currently on the market makes for a good resemblance.
