Spotify Silently Updated with a Feature That’s Great News for Google Users

Spotify is currently one of the leading choices when it comes to the music experience in the car, and with Google killing off Google Play Music, it’s pretty clear that not everybody wants to switch to YouTube Music, as per the request of the Mountain View-based search giant.
Instead, some of those disappointed with Google retiring their favorite service would end up migrating to Spotify, especially because this one is available pretty much everywhere, including on the phone, on the web, and in the car.

Spotify itself knows that it needs to make its apps feel like home for Google users, so the company has recently updated the service with a small yet very important change: support for Google accounts.

In other words, new users no longer need to register for Spotify and create a new account but only use their Google credentials to log in. For someone coming from Google Play Music, this is clearly something that comes in very handy, and this is probably the thing that Spotify had in mind when it added this new feature.

The company hasn’t announced the release of the feature, but this reportedly went live only a few hours ago on Android and on the web, with iOS and Windows clients yet to receive such capabilities. Most likely, updates on these platforms would follow rather sooner than later.

Spotify has also published a support page to provide more information about Google logins, pointing out that this feature is only available for new users.

You can’t currently connect an existing account to Google. If your Spotify email address is the same as your Google email address, you’re prompted to log in with your email address and password instead. If your Spotify email address is different to your Google email address, you will create a new account if you choose to sign up with Google,” Spotify explains.

According to Spotify itself, the Google account support page was last updated on October 22.
