About a year ago, before it lost its longtime CEO and entered some troubled times, Harley-Davidson announced an ambitious plan to gain 1 million riders by 2027. The plan is extensive, and includes new model launches, especially in a segment no other established bike maker is a player in: electric motorcycles.
Harley’s first salvo on this new front is of course the LiveWire, the electrified machine that was supposed to be a game-changer. The reality is the two-wheeler is still to make the impact its creators were hoping for, and the world was anticipating.
In an attempt to bridge the need for more riders overall with the need to draw more LiveWire buyers, Harley announced on Thursday (May 28) it will target potential customers from a very young age, with a specially-designed version of its IRONe family, dedicated to the LiveWire electric motorcycle.
IRONe is a line of electric balance bikes dedicated to kids aged 3-7 years old, and under 75 lbs. The special version envisioned for the line and announced today is available for both models currently on the market, the IRONe12 and IRONe16.
But what’s so special about them? If we’re reading this correctly, just the unique graphics, and the color that has been chosen to mirror the Yellow Fuse hue available for the electric LiveWire.
In Harley’s books, these minor changes are reason enough for a price bump. Whereas the usual IRONe12 and IRONe16 start from $649 and $699, respectively, the special edition will retail for a tad more, from $699 and $749. There will be just 550 units of this special edition made.
“The Limited Edition IRONe12 and IRONe16 are impressively custom and extremely limited,” said in a statement Jon Bekefy, general manager of brand marketing at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “No other Harley-Davidson shares the Yellow Fuse color exclusive to LiveWire, which is the halo of the H-D EV portfolio.”
