Spa-Francorchamps Regains Operating License

The Belgian and French fans of Formula One can rest assured, as the Spa-Francorchamps circuit reportedly received new operating license on Monday.

The news surfaced in the media via the rtbf.be site – information website – who suggested that Philippe Henry, the planning minister of the Wallonia government, was the one to grant the Spa-Francorchamps track with a new operating license for hosting grand prix racing. However, the same reports shows that the license is only temporary, until a definitive solution is reached in court.

Earlier this season, following the hosting of the Belgian Grand Prix, an administrative court decided to revoke the historical F1 circuit's operating license due to several complaints issued by the residents of the Wallonia region.

However, several residents of the aforementioned area claimed they are not at all disturbed by the noise coming from the GP machineries and even launched an online petition in order to overturn the decision of the administrative court.

The petition was signed by over 30,000 people only a the first few days, making a clear statement that the people of Wallonia don't agree with the court's decision. Henry therefore decided to do some repairing in the matter, despite the fact that the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix posted a financial loss of 5M euros.

The new license allows the circuit to host the 2010 Belgian Grand Prix only, as it is to expire in March 2011.
