Nothing sucks worse than showing up on time for a flight and then having to wait for almost 3 more hours to finally take off. It happened just recently in Orlando, Florida, with a Southwest Airlines plane bound for Washington D.C.
Luckily for these passengers, a gate agent with a healthy sense of humor helped them pass the time in the most fun manner, by holding 2 different contests, each more funny than the other. According to Kristen Dundas, who spoke to CNN about it, the first one was to find the worst driver’s license photo.
All passengers who wished to take part in the competition could do so, and based on the video posted by Dundas on social media, it looks like the gate agent worked a double shift as presenter and jury. Then, he held another contest, this time for the best paper plane. You have to give the guy props for thinking outside the box.
At the end, the winners got actual prizes, so this wasn’t just a manner of passing the time. They received Southwest merchandise and $25 vouchers for their next flights, but what’s more important, they got a hilarious experience, which allowed them to spend almost 3 hours stuck at the airport.
“I was really irritated that the flight kept getting delayed because I was going for a quick weekend trip to DC to visit friends,” Dundas tells CNN. “Once he started playing games, I was laughing and having a great time and didn't even mind that the flight was delayed.”
Dundas’ video on Twitter went viral, so Southwest is happy to point out to everyone that this is just who they are.
“This video is another great example of how we encourage our employees to have fun with customers,” Dan Landson, a spokesman for Southwest Airlines, says in a statement for the same media outlet. “Our employees are known for these types of fun activities all across our system and they're designed to help make flying fun for everyone.”

I'm glad our Agent was able to make the delay a little more bearable for y'all, Kristen! We hope to have you on your way ASAP. -Alec
