This definitely beats having a sourpuss for a flight attendant: a female cabin crew member on a recent Southwest Airlines flight decided to climb into – and actually spend time inside – the overhead compartment, as a means to get fliers laughing.
From footage and photos posted on social media by passenger Veronica Lloyd, it seems that the flight attendant was successful in her attempt. She did, however, make Lloyd feel “perplexed” about the whole thing because she didn’t know what to make of it.
Speaking with Fox News, Lloyd says that the woman was inside the carry-on luggage compartment on this Monday’s flight from Nashville to Philadelphia for “a solid 10 minutes.” Lloyd only recorded a few seconds of the entire thing – and you can see the video at the bottom of the page as well.
“I think she was doing it to try and be funny and make the passengers laugh,” she says for the same media outlet.
On Twitter, though, Lloyd asks Southwest to explain what exactly was happening, and her sentiment is echoed by many of her followers. After all, you do expect a certain standard of professionalism when you board a plane and, despite all good intentions, seeing a flight attendant act like a child by trying to fit into the small overhead compartment doesn’t exactly fit the bill.
In a statement to Fox News, the airline company says this was just a prank meant to make the flight more fun for the passengers and, as such, should in no way considered norm.
“Southwest Employees are known for demonstrating their sense of humor and unique personalities,” the airline says. “In this instance, one of our flight attendants attempted to have a brief moment of fun with Customers during boarding. Of course, this is not our normal procedure, and Southwest Crews always maintain Safety as their top priority.”
