Riding a bicycle is both fun and healthy, yet still there are people that find these two-wheeled vehicles quite uncomfortable to sit on, especially during longer trips when that narrow saddle will eventually give you a numb crotch. Luckily you can now get a sturdy tricycle which also comes fitted with a way more comfortable laid back seat, almost the same as the one at your office, but a bit more reclined.
If you recall, last December, Maria Leijerstam became the first person to cycle from the edge of the Antarctic continent to the South Pole. Well, that wouldn’t have probably been possible if it wasn’t for the Inspired Cycle Engineering (ICE) Full Fat leg-powered trike.
It might look like some sort of vehicle designed for disabled people but believe us this is the perfect cycling machine for long runs. Maria used a specially designed one for her South Pole run, but the company said the model is available to buy for anyone interested.
The name of the new ICE tricycle has nothing to do with fat people, despite this vehicle will aid you with bodyweight shaving, but with its tires: two Surly Big Fat Larry 4.7-inch wide at the front and one Surly Lou 4.8-inch in the back, all mounted on 26-inch Surly Clown Shoe high-strength rims.
And because this thing is aimed at rough terrain, you can get a full elastomer suspension with 4 inches (100 mm) of travel, a Rohloff XL 14-speed rear hub transmission as well as Tektro hydraulic and Avid BB7 disc brakes, front and rear, respectively.
The ICE Full Fat will be available on order, with each customer being able to customize his/hers accordingly. However, don’t assume for one second that these tricycles are only a tad more expensive than your regular Mountain Bike; some say you should have at least $5,500 laying around if willing to place an order.
