While us petrol heads enjoy sportscars drifting and tires turning into smoke on the race track, here stands the world with a great problem: pollution. With Americans generating about 285 million scrap tires per year, people are searching for solutions of reusing or recycling them. Meanwhile, a very talented artist from South Korea might have found a way to turn old rubber wheels into stunning sculptures that truly have amazed the world.
Yong Ho Ji is a 36-year old artist from South Korea who has been turning his mythological visions into reality. He did his Bachelor of Arts in sculptures from the Hongik University in Seoul and later moved on to New York to complete his Master in fine arts from the New York University.

For the last 7 years he has been traveling the world with his unique exhibitions showing people what artificial really means. His sculptures vary from endangered species blended perfectly with a near human physical structure, to science-fiction monsters, alien creatures, humanoids and even genetically modified organisms.

As all of his work is based on the use of old tires, several of the sculptures could make for a kid’s nightmare, but are at the same time as unique, as they are sublime. With just a short visit on Ji’s website, a huge and impressive collection reveals itself, as amazement easily turns any skeptic into a believer.

We have to admit, however, art is partially a matter of taste, a world where each of us sees things differently. Like it or not, the man deserves all the appreciation, at least for the struggle to make that change...
