When you’re staring down the barrel of a gun, even from behind a closed window, you might be excused for losing your cool and / or failing to react. But not this granny.
Video of a failed carjacking attempt was posted to Twitter and has gone viral, for obvious reasons: this is one badass granny. Though many viewers and commenters assumed that the driver was male and duly praised him for acting so cool while threatened with a gun, The Citizen says the car was actually driven by an elderly woman.

In fact, that’s her you can hear in the background, talking to her granddaughter. The publication says she’s actually telling her that she’s sorry she didn’t ram the thieves harder with her car, and that she wishes she could have at least hit them more times.

The incident happened in Gauteng, South Africa, when the thieves ambushed the woman in her own driveway. The incident was captured on CCTV, with footage showing the moment the woman pulled in, followed closely by another car.

Three men jumped out of this car, which served as escape vehicle, and surrounded the woman’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, pointing guns at her and her female passenger. You can see the driver refusing to open the windows and then fumbling until she gets the car in reverse and smashes into the other vehicle on purpose.

It is then that the wannabe thieves rush towards their escape car, thinking of making a quick getaway – but the grandma refuses to let go. She rams their car 2 more times and even manages to hit one of the thieves, lifting him on the hood.

Afterwards, the carjackers flee to safety and the grandma can boast of having single-handedly thwarted their attempt at taking her car – gun or no gun. By the way, word on Twitter is that the guns used here were probably toys, but that takes nothing from the woman’s courageous gesture.
