South Africa Could Ban Lane Splitting

What do Switzerland and South Africa have in common? No, it's not the stockpiles of money (banks and diamonds, respectively), it's the silly law-makers which are against lane splitting!

Lane splitting is currently legal in South Africa, and even has firm regulations for keeping thing orderly. Even though some "slalomers" could say that these restrictions may seem to harsh, they're only plain common sense, or at least as close to common sense as they get. And if you sit on it a bit, you'll see that things could work out pretty well as they are now.

According to Motorbiker, who delved deeper in the story, lane splitting in South Africa must be done keeping in the same lane (lol, one lane, we split it, right?), not weaving through the traffic (a very safe thing to do, too) and without riding over the lines (evil, slippery lines).

As people were happy with this, especially riders, the local Automobile Association thought to change the game and called for a nationwide ban on lane splitting, suddenly realizing the terrible danger this maneuver comes with (BS).

Since a ban was not enough, they added some more BS to the law project: "motorcycles must ride in single-file on the road (a lane is considered to be a road) and only one motorcycle at a time may overtake another vehicle traveling in the same lane," iAfrica reports.

I believe the bikies in South Africa should start a FFMC ( Fédération Française des motards en Colère, the Pissed-off Bikers) charter and show the narrow-minded folks at Automobile Association how nice traffic in a large and busy city looks like with 5000 bikes riding in a single file. The French did it, so it's doable, right?

Sadly, guys like these, who seem to fail to understand that lane splitting is good when done the right way are the cause for a future Planetary Brotherhood of Pissed-off Bikers.
