Sondors Fat-Tire E-Bike That Made $3 Million in One Week Gets Production Underway

If you're looking for a cool electric bicycle but the prices you keep on running into are prohibitive, it's best to take a closer look at the Sondors Storm, an e-bike that can do everything for a fraction of the price.

The Storm looks pretty radical, and may not appeal too much to those in search of a more traditional two-wheeler. However, for the rest of us, this is pure heaven: simple, robust and fun, and more than anything, affordable.

When the Storm came out, it was supposed to retail for $1,250 (€1,153) but for a limited time, buyers could get it for half the price. Even more, cool optional purchases at discounted price have also been around, such as an extra battery shipped for only 50 bucks or so.

A fat-tire bike with strong rims that can go anywhere

The Sondors Storm comes with fat tires that will make treading on both city tarmac and forest trail a breeze. Power comes from a 10Ah Lithium-Ion battery and flows to a 350W rear hub, 36V motor. The coolest thing about it is that it can be fully recharged in 90 minutes and a full charge will offer up to 50 miles (80 km) of pedal assistance.

Reaching a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), the Sondors Storm is suitable for fast urban commuting or city errands, while its beefy tires make an off-road stroll a fun adventure.

The battery is easily replaceable, and thanks to its small dimensions and moderate weight, a rider can actually carry a spare, charged one in a backpack for extended range. Being left without juice will, however, require some effort, though the 24.9 kg (55 lbs) weight is under what other similar bikes can brag on.

With more than 5,500 backers and just under $6 million (€5.53 million) in funds, of which half were raised in just one week, the Sondors Storm production started and the first bikes are to be delivered soon. Sondors delivered the first video of the production line in China to make the wait a bit easier. Or harder, if you ask us, because the bike looks smoking hot.

And the production kicked off!
