Someone Drove Into Oncoming Traffic In Lincoln Tunnel, Nobody Died

New York’s Lincoln Tunnel has endured an unusual motorist, who decided that going to New Jersey was unacceptable and turned while inside the structure. You read that right. Someone drove into oncoming traffic through the Lincoln Tunnel.

Miraculously, the feat did not end up killing anyone, as this consequence was possible considering someone drove into oncoming traffic while going through a tunnel, but a Port Authority police officer was wounded. Apparently, the red Chevrolet Cruze drove by 30-year-old Amber Johnson hit an officer of the New York Port Authority and injured the person’s wrist after deciding to turn around and drive into oncoming traffic.

The accident happened after she told police of her intention not to continue westbound to New Jersey, even though the driver from Tennessee was instructed to continue through the tunnel. As you have already realized, the woman from Clarksville did not comply with the instructions and kept driving.

Fortunately, this happened on a Sunday night, so traffic was not as high as a regular work day. Hitting a Port Authority officer with her car did not stop Amber Johnson, as she continued her trip against traffic until she almost reached Times Square.

As The Leaf notes, she passed through an underpass at 39th Street and 40th Street on her way, but police officers managed to get her to pull over. The 30-year-old soldier was arrested, and was charged with multiple traffic violations, as well as assault and unlawful fleeing. We are surprised nobody else was injured in this shocking incident, which could have ended tragically.

There is no need for us to remind you that traffic signs exist for a reason, and they must be obeyed even if you change your mind after entering a tunnel, bridge, or a highway.

Sometimes, common sense and good judgment can go a long way, and this is one of the scenarios where an autonomous car would have prevented this situation, if you ask us.

The reason why the woman did not want to go to New Jersey and turn around is unknown, but there is no excuse for hitting someone with your car and driving away. Notice that we did not mention the oncoming traffic part, because the line has already been crossed with the accident.
