Somebody Wanted a Truck and a Mustang and Couldn’t Make Up His Mind

Unless you have unlimited amounts of money, deciding on which car to buy is always a pest since you can’t have them all. And that’s exactly why the best choice is always a sports car. If you can’t have them all, then at least have some fun.
The owner of this car seems to have made the right initial choice. He got himself a previous generation Ford Mustang, which isn’t the best sports car out there, if we’re to be honest, but it’s a classic, legendary name so it’s always a good idea to have around.

But then he started to enjoy the idea of an SUV, with its go-anywhere capability and commanding presence on the road that his Mustang was lacking. The problem is, his wife was very clear: “you’re not buying another car already, you hear me?” so he had to postpone his dream for a few years.

In the meantime, though, while he was lying awake at night thinking about his SUV, he was struck by an idea: why not turn my Mustang into one? And why, indeed, not? After all, as we’ve already established, it’s not the most accomplished sports car so he wouldn’t risk making the gods of speed angry, so what was holding him back? Nothing, that’s what. Not even his wife.

So he went on and installed plain steel wheels wrapped in huge all-terrain tires. He decided that a military-green paint scheme would better fit the car now, and we agree with his choice. Is he happy? Well, he basically has a vehicle that’s neither a sports car, nor an SUV, so it’s probably not quite the result he’d anticipated. But he is getting all the looks, so that’s a positive.

Judging by the gap between the tires and the wheel arches, we’d guess the suspension is pretty stiff. And since the Mustang doesn’t come with four-wheel drive, his car is probably more talk and less walk.

On the other hand, since we only have this image posted by KingRodric on reddit to go by, it’s not unthinkable that the Mustang body was bolted on a 4WD chassis, so the “Mudstang,” as KingRodric refers to it, could be more useful over rough terrain than we first imagined. Still, judging by the low ground clearance, we doubt this is the case.

But, anyway, this Mustang conversion has that same attitude as the Giugiaro Parcour concept or the similar Audi incarnation, and considering all the niches popping up in every corner of the automotive industry, we really can’t understand why no car maker takes it upon itself to turn something like this into a production model. It would prevent a lot of marital conflicts.
