Somebody's Stretching a Tesla Model S into a Limousine and No One Is Surprised

The Tesla Model S has always been a luxury vehicle, a claim very much supported by its exorbitant price as well as the quality of its interior and finishes. So it does make some sense to attempt a conversion that will transform it into a stretched limousine.

Well, if you ignore the technical difficulties of such a project, then, yes, by all means, go right ahead. But bear in mind that the Model S - like most EVs - is a very carefully packaged vehicle, and any tinkering with the way its components fit together is going to have serious repercussions on how it will drive. Or even on if it will work at all.

However, that's not what the guys doing this are probably after. They're much more interested in the "first Tesla limousine in the world" title, so they're busy getting the transformation ready as we speak. The company's name is Big Limos (how fitting) and it's based in Costa Mesa. The name suggests they know a thing or two about turning regular cars into stretched limos, so the Model S is probably in good hands. Even though the first thing that had to happen after stripping the interior was to slice the car in two.

How exactly they managed to do that when the battery pack is sandwiched beneath the floor is anyone's guess. However, it would be very interesting to know whether they'll also extend the battery pack itself, now that there's tons of extra room thanks to the increase in length. If they added an extra battery, it would surely compensate for the newly gained weight and then some. There's no word on whether it might happen, but if it did, it would surely push the limo's range far beyond that of a regular Model S.

After an electric roadster, an electric mid-sized sedan, an electric SUV and the upcoming electric compact sedan, the electric stretched limousine seems to be the next type of vehicle to get an emissions-free version. One can only wonder what exactly is next. Here is a timelapse video of the car being cut in half, which we strongly recommend you don't watch if you've just stepped out of your Model S.
