Some Guy Sold Beer out of the Back of a BMW 502 at this Year’s Villa D’Este

Respect means absolutely nothing to some people and today, profits mean everything. Even a beautiful car like a BMW 502 or as they used to be known, a Baroque Angel, is no longer sacred and can be put to work.

We’re kidding, of course, but we were rather surprised to see this owner using his classic 502 as a sort of mobile beer keg carrier that also has taps in the trunk.

To get a picture of just what this model meant to BMW and the German car industry too, you should know that alongside its 501 brother, these were the first cars to be manufactured and sold by the Bavarians after the Second World War, being unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 1951.

The difference between them (apart from the names) was that the 502 used a 2.6-liter or a 3.2-liter V8 engine whereas the 501 stuck to traditional inline 6-cylinder architectures with two such engines, all of them being used in conjunction with a 4-speed manual gearbox.

Due to the coach-styled doors and the design created by Peter Schimanowski, the public called the cars Baroque Angels or “Barockengel” in German. Furthermore, the bodies were not even made at BMW back then as they did not have the technology or resources to do them. Instead, a good old fashioned coach building company by the name of Karosserie Baur did them, shipping each one to BMW’s factory in Munich for assembly.

The body being manufactured separately meant that customers were not forced to choose only out of what BMW offered them, 4-door sedans. They could also get the 501 and 502 in Convertible or Coupe guises but they’d have to order the body separately at a coach builder.

Apparently, the man in the video took full of all these opportunities and converted this 502 into a bar. It’s not a bad idea either, combining business with pleasure and allowing him to gain entrance at the biggest classic car venues in the world, like this year’s Concorso D’Eleganza Villa d’Este where we presume he made some good money. Now you'll have to excuse us while we go get a beer.
