Solar Taxi design is the project that won the 2013-2014 "A’ Design Award" in the "Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Category." Created by Turkish engineer Hakan Gursu, it could be the eco-friendly vehicle to replace the classic yellow taxis..
It comes with a spacious design that offers enough room to accomodate a physically disabled passenger and 4 other passengers. Solar Taxi is a highly technologized vehicle that could be used in city centers, where the speed is slowed down and where traffic jams are frequently encountered. Objecting to increase their existing battery system by 20-25%, the nano-solar (passive) panels render the contraption effective during the daytime without the need of direct sunlight.
It features a sturdy construction surrounded by a transparent outer shell that ensures enough strengh needed for tough roads. Its endurance is also maintained by specially developed accessories meant to prolong the product’s life. This green machine is a wheel-chair friendly automobile with improved accessibility, designed in accordance with international vehicle norms defined as under 551 pounds (250 kilograms).
Acoording to their website, A' Design Award and Competitions are organized and awarded annually in a wide range of categories to create awareness for good design. It's allegedly the world's largest and most diffused design competition, reaching over 200 countries each year.
