Soccer Stars Prepare for the Audi Cup

Just knowing the name of the four teams that will compete in the Audi Cup, scheduled to take place on July 29 and 30 at the Allianz Arena, and names of several great coaches and soccer players instantly come to mind. Ronaldinho, Mario Gomez, Pato, Riquelme, Wayne Rooney and Ribery are just a few of the names that will heat up the tournament’s atmosphere.

The teams began training since Monday morning, except for AC Milan, which arrived in Munich this morning. However, all the players seem to be in the perfect shape to offer the fans a true soccer festival.

“The Audi Cup is the absolute highlight of our entire preparation,” said Bayern’s Mario Gomez. “It’s the perfect litmus test before things get really serious for the first time next weekend.”

Manchester’s super star Wayne Rooney later echoed his comments. “A tournament with these international top-class teams during preparation is something really special for us. Obviously, we want to make a good showing there,” he said.

All of the coaches, Bayern’s Louis van Gaal, Leonardo (AC Milan), Alfio Basile (Boca Juniors) and Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United) made it clear that the Audi Cup is a real and ultimate test for all the participants, and not just another practice tournament the start of the new soccer season.

The event will kick off with Boca Juniors, the team where superstar Diego Maradona ended his career, playing against Manchester United for a place into the final, while hosts Bayern Munich will attempt to get into the final by taking on seven-time Champions League winners AC Milan. One day later, the winner of the Audi Cup 2009 will be decided.
