There have been at least five major ice ages in the earth’s past and we’re currently living a interglacial period which scientists call holocene. But looking at this closed snowmobile sitting on tracks we simply want to imagine there’s something really wrong going on with the planet and we suddenly find ourselves in the middle of a new glacial period.
OK, maybe there is nothing in this world like that Ford F-150 RaptorTRAX Ken Block had the chance to drive on the top of some snowy mountains. Sure, the way the Monster Energy driver was carving its way through the snow and doing all sorts of crazy stunts along his fellow snowboarders probably can't get any better.
Then there’s that V8-powered sleigh belonging to Swedish drag racing team Lindeberg Bros. Built on an old Volvo Duett chassis on top of which they fitted a shel resembling that of a Ford T-bucket, it's a machine Santa would retire with.
So yes, the weird thing we’re looking at is not as cool as these machines, but sure is one heck of a winter toy. Snow crawler provides all the handling and performance of a traditional snowmobile, powered by an efficient electric drive system, but is a lot better. And that’s not just because of its warrior-like looks, but thanks to that closed cabin which provides the exact missing piece of any regular winter machine: isolation.
Unfortunately, this puppy is just a concept at the moment, a true masterpiece of a group of fearless designers, but we sure hope we’ll live the day when that’s how snowmobiles will look like.
