Smugglers are getting more creative by the day, but their efforts don’t seem to have the results they’re counting on. A young man was arrested in India, having landed from UAE with a considerable load of gold pasted to his shaved head and hidden under a wig.
No doubt about it, the disguise looks better than what a 60-year-old man came up with last summer, when he tried to sashay through the Barcelona airport with 1.1 pounds (503 grams) of cocaine poorly hidden under his toupee. But it still wasn’t good enough to fool customs, The Hindu reports.

The suspect has only been identified as Naushad, from Malappuram. He had flown in from Sharjah, Dubai, and had landed at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), where he got busted by the Customs Air Intelligence Unit. The report doesn’t say what tipped the agents off because, by the looks of the photos made available online, the disguise looked pretty genuine.

Naushad was traveling with 2.49 pounds (1.13 kg) of gold in compound form (so as to avoid detection), which he had pasted to his shaved head, placing a wig on top of it. He was detained and is being held in custody, as authorities believe he’s part of a larger ring of smugglers. They also suspect this wasn’t a one-off for him, as he may be working as carrier. They’re now trying to determine where the gold came from and where it was going.

And then, there’s this: “Customs officials had in the past detected the yellow metal concealed in body parts varying from feet to rectum. So much so that, it often came up during discussions among officials that head was probably the only part left by smugglers to sneak in the contraband,” The Hindu writes.

As the saying goes, you should always be careful what you wish for because, one day, you might just get it.
