As hybrid vehicles are gaining popularity among taxi operators, the third largest cab company in Singapore, SMRT, announced to expand its fleet with 600 new Toyota Prius which are expected to arrive this Friday.
This way, SMRT will became the largest hybrid taxi company in Singapore, making about one-fifth of its total fleet of about 3,500 vehicles.
"Opting for hybrid vehicles is a conscious move on SMRT's part in generating more positive environmental footprint on roads." said SMRT senior vice-president. He also added that passengers can look forward to more comfortable, smoother and quieter rides in the new vehicles.
Not only that the new cars will offer more comfortable rides to customers, but it will also increase the company’s earnings due to their 51 mpg fuel economy in the city and 48 on the highway.
