smart Roadster Concept Coming to Geneva

The look of the smart Roadster concept that was trademarked by the company at the beginning of the year appealed to many. It offered a fresh, youthful interpretation of what two-seater roadsters could look like. Despite its somewhat outlandish appearance, it looked like something that could actually be build in real life, as its proportions are basically identical to the current fortwo. It looks that the design 3D rendering could actually get a real-world incarnation, as Carscoop reports that the concept is actually heading to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, which starts at the beginning of next month. If this is the case, than this is one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to the forthcoming Geneva debuts. Also according to Carscoop, the concept will in fact be powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that drives the rear wheels, just like the Electric Drive (ED) variant of the car. Mercedes Benz, smart’s parent company, reportedly has no plans to take the Roadster into production, but some of the styling elements of the car will be found on the next generation fortwo. This would mean that the more grown up design will be replaced with the concept’s bubbly headlights and smiling front grille. Back in 2001, smart introduced another roadster variant with no doors at the Geneva Motor Show.
