We have no idea how smart survives with so many concept every year to preview their future lineup, a lineup that never seems to come. But now they’ve partnered with Renault, and the French know how to make a good small car, so there’s hope for smart after all.
Their latest concept is called the forstars, and it will bow at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, previewing the next generation of fortwo and also smart’s future lineup.

The design is quite interesting, like a cartoonish character that squinting frowning at you. It’s serious and angry, but you can’t take it that way. The platform is longer than the current fortwo, and combines 21-inch wheels and a raised stance to give it a muscular look.

The drivetrain is pulled straight out of the fortwo EV, a magneto-electric motor positioned on the rear axle and producing 80 hp and 135 Nm (99.5 lb-ft).

autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
