smart Makes Hilarious Huge City Car to Tease New Generation of fortwo

The new fortwo and forfour from smart are just days away from being revealed. Their debut has been officially scheduled for July 16th, but it might as well have been on April 1st. Why? Because the marketing campaign is a huge joke, but not in a bad way.

Under the title "Big city cars. Big nonsense?", smart officials explain why their next models will be the size of houses. Perfectly delivered jokes explain that huge city cars will be much easier to find, need to air conditioning and create slipstreams for the vehicles behind them. Why make these jokes? This is a shot in the dark, but maybe smart is making fun of the fact that most automakers are increasing sizes with every generation.

The video serves a double role here, as Daimler is actually previewing the design of the new fortwo. We are easily able to make out the front end design and the new two-box body that has a Twingo-like protruding nose. Also present is a new smart "C" logo that's as large as any from Renault.

The official debut of the new smart is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany on July 16 at 18:00 GMT. Based on a platform shared with their new partners at Renault, For the first time ever, the fortwo will be available with a manual gearbox, meaning the jerkiness of the old automated system is going to be a thing of the past.

70% of the parts will be shared with the new Twingo III, including at least two engines: 70 PS three-cylinder and 90 PS 0.9 TCe. And electric version will also be launched, most likely in 2016.
