When smart is done making these silly cars they sell us, they have a brilliant carrear in the world of concept car design. Honestly, they really are the best at making small concepts.
This one is called the fourjoy and it's been revealed today ahead of an official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. It has no doors, no rear windows and an open roof. Instead of a trunk, you have a place to store helmets for your skateboarding adventures. The interior is equally as funk, but you can't really call it an interior since it's so exposed to the elements. There's a distinct feeling of "oh, so this is the car of the future" since everything from the wheels to the seat backs and the whole side panel of the car are chromed to a brilliant luster.

If the Silver Surfer from the Marvel comics liked skateboarding, this would be his car, but I guess then we'd call him the Silver Skateboarder.

But the fourjoy concept really has a lot more significance than we're being led to believe. Its name starts with "four", indicating it could preview the next forfour. Unlike the old car, which was based on a Mitsubishi Colt, this one is being co-developed with Renault. The French carmaker has previewed its own 4-door, 4-seater in that Twin'Z Concept they showed us in Geneva.

The smart fourjoy is the perfect icon of our smart design philosophy that is being carried into a new era. For the first time we are showing the future sporty four-seater character of the new smart family,” says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. “The typical smart silhouette, the clear lines and styling and also the further development of the smart face make this study a modern design icon.”

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
