smart Football Playing at the World Cup

So far, the 2010 World Cup had some surprises to offer to the millions of football fans around the world, but England decided to take the competition outside the regular pitch. Apparently, eight smart cars will be entertaining the crowds at Mercedes-Benz World during the World Cup.

A series of not so ordinary football matches will take place soon. The match will feature two five minute halves and a penalty shoot out as four smart cars in their England strip take on smarts from around the world.

“The resident referee is equipped with giant red and yellow cards and is not afraid to use them as the cars and their drivers take their position on the Mercedes-Benz World pitch in the ultimate game of world class automotive soccer,”
a company statement reads.

According to the carmaker, the smart football will take place on Saturday 19 June, Sunday 20 June, Saturday 26 June, Sunday 27 June and Saturday 10 July.

“As the World Cup kicks off, we want to show our support for England and do something extra special for our visitors. Live commentary will keep supporters on top of all the action as the two teams of smart cars dribble and shoot a giant sized football into the goal,” Andrew Mallery, Commercial Operations Director at Mercedes-Benz Cars, said in a release.

Following the smart football match, visitors will enjoy the Silver Arrows Display Team and the synchronized driving skill from four Mercedes-Benz World drivers in the latest Mercedes AMG cars.  And that’s not all. Four lucky winners of the daily competition will have the chance to be part of the display from the passenger seat.
