smart’s British division today announced that its electric bike is now available for order, ahead of its launch, which is scheduled for later this month. The smart ebike is included in the pedelec (Pedal Electric Cycle) category, being considered a hybrid vehicle.
The bike is powered by a 200 watt BionX electric motor in the rear wheel hub, which enters service after the rider selects one of the four power assistance modes and starts pedaling.
The bike, which uses 423 Wh lithium-ion battery, offers a range of up to 62 miles (100 km), depending on how the rides cycles and the power level selected. Users can choose between two color combinations: crystal white/energy green and dark grey matt/flame orange, with the bike riding on 26-inch wheels. The vehicle tips the scales at 26 kg (57 lbs) and comes with MT4 disc brakes.
The price you have to pay for all that technology? GBP2,495 (EUR3,090 at the current exchange rates).
