The company has only been working on the Arrival Van since 2020, which makes these achievements all the more commendable, given the short time frame in which it managed to successfully complete all certification tests, including the functional and safety ones required for its EUWVTA.

The Arrival Van was conceived as an economically efficient and environmentally sustainable commercial vehicle. It is made using in-house lightweight composite materials that are durable, recyclable, and affordable. It has an aluminum frame and composite bodywork created with a proprietary blend of plastics and fiberglass.

One major advantage the Arrival Van has over traditionally-made vans is the fact that it is built in what the manufacturer describes as rapidly scalable micro-factories placed in cities all around the world, rather than in a single, central facility. They are expected to have a lower cost of assembly and shorter commissioning time.

Just like its other vehicles (the Arrival Bus and the Arrival Car), the Van also takes a modular approach, which allows for the upgrading of both the hardware and software of the vehicle over time. The van consists of nine modules, one for the battery pack, which can range between 44 kWh to 133 kWh, and eight other modules for various hardware and software packages.

Arrival’s vans have a payload capacity of up to 4,354 lb (1,975 kg). They feature emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, and other smart systems. Info in the cabin is displayed on a large 15.6” touchscreen display. The British manufacturer also plans to add automated driving functionality to all its vehicles, including the Arrival Van.

Next, the British EV maker says it plans to start trials with customers in the following months. Arrival boasts of having over 140,000 non-binding letters of intent and orders for variants of its van. Production is scheduled to start in Bicester, U.K., in the third quarter of this year.
